WORKSHOPS, INTENSIVE COURSES, SPECIAL EVENTS Hips & Twists, Sunday 5/20 11:30am-1:30pm at Mindful Turtle Yoga & Wellness Join Jackie for an exploration of the anatomy of the hips and pelvic girdle and how to apply this knowledge to your yoga practice and everyday movements to find greater mobility, stability, health, and ease. Learn how anterior and posterior tilting of the pelvis affects the alignment of your spine and how flexion, extension, and rotation of the hips affects the health of your feet, ankles, knees, and legs. This workshop will provide an opportunity to look at how your yoga practice can be used as physical therapy in the case of knee instability or injury, sacroiliac joint pain, sciatica, conditions in the lumbar spine, and more, and will include techniques for increasing your flexibility and strength in the hips and pelvis. Restorative Yoga, Sunday 5/27 6:00-7:30pm at Mindful Turtle Yoga & Wellness This workshop will incorporate a restorative yoga practice, guided relaxation, meditation and visualization as well as the use of essential oils to facilitate a calming and healing experience. A relaxed series of seated and reclined postures will be included and postures will be held 5-10 minutes with the use of props. A yin yoga practice can be used to complement to an active yang practice, emphasizing long holds in asana (postures), so that the positions can work on the connective tissues (ligaments, tendons, and fascia), increasing circulation and promoting healing. This practice has a balancing effect on the autonomic nervous system, influencing healthy heart rate, digestion, respiration, and more. $30, please pre-register with Mindful Turtle.
Shoulders & Backbends, Sunday 6/3 11:30am-1:30pm at Mindful Turtle Yoga & Wellness Join Jackie for an exploration of the anatomy of the shoulder girdle and how we can discover healthy internal and external rotation in our yoga postures and in everyday movements. Absolutely a must if you have or have had pain or discomfort in the shoulder, elbow, arm, wrist, and even the upper back and neck as imbalanced shoulder movements and positioning could be the cause of strain and pain, and could even result in larger chronic conditions such as cervical spine herniations, cervical stenosis, nerve entrapment and impingement in the arms, and chronic headaches! After breaking down healthy rotation in the shoulders, we will explore spinal extension in the form of backbending postures.
