About the Event
This yoga practice is for any one at any time! We are always able to accommodate injuries or special considerations for a slow-moving, supported, and deeply healing practice such as this one. Restorative yoga involves seated, supine, and prone postures held for 5-10 minutes each with the use of props to promote deeper relaxation and a meditative state. Long holds in asana (poses) allow us to access connective tissue, increasing circulation, and promoting healing, while slow and gentle breathing helps to trigger the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing the body to move into the "rest and digest" or "attend and befriend" mode, influencing healthy digestion, respiration, heart rate, blood pressure, immune function, social interaction, and emotional regulation. You are encouraged to set up your home practice space to be maximally relaxing, diffusing essential oils, lighting a candle, or using incense. Come prepared with any props that you own, but if you do not have yoga props, gather several pillows, cushions, and blankets, and we will improvise with what you have. Since the singing bowls do not translate well over Zoom, there will be some use of chimes and plenty of guided meditation and visualization techniques to calm, center, and ground us. $30, please sign up with Mindful Turtle.
